Diana Ohiozebau was born in Leeds, England, and raised in Nigeria. She is a mixed- media artist based in Edmonton. Drawing deeply from her African heritage, she creates compelling artworks that explore identity, culture, and personal narratives. Ohiozebau uses a combination of diverse materials in her work, including African prints (Dutch wax fabrics), natural and synthetic textiles, yarn and acrylics on aso-oke fabric. Blending painting with textile art, her pieces transcend traditional boundaries, and stride as paintings, textile and soft sculptural forms. She has had exhibitions in prominent galleries in Nigeria, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Toronto with insightful artist talks that deepen viewer's engagement with her creative process and themes. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the University of Calgary, a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), and a Master of Art (MA) from the University of Alberta, Ohiozebau brings a wealth of academic and artistic knowledge to her practice. Ohiozebau continues to explore materials and techniques through experimentation with diverse textiles in ways that deepen and push the boundaries of her artistic and visual language. Beyond her studio practice, she also gives back to the community through painting workshops, art classes, paint nights, and both private and public art commissions.

My artistic practice is centered around exploring themes of identity, femininity, culture, place, and my personal experiences as a Nigerian Canadian living in two worlds. My works are infused with vibrant colors, geometric shapes, lines, textures, stylization, patterns, and motifs inspired by African fabrics, masks and sculptures.  Through an intuition-led process, I lay and overlap these materials and visual elements to create works that exist as paintings, textiles, and sculptures. This process allows me to tap into my creative instincts and follow a journey that ultimately leads to a cohesive, meaningful, and beautiful piece that often exceeds my initial expectations. I draw immense fulfillment from this intuitive process, as each piece takes on a life of its own and reflects a unique journey of creation. Through my works, I aim to create space that inspires curiosity about the rich cultural heritage of African art forms.
